The company thinks Kazakhstan offers excellent offshore and onshore exploration potential. JSC Ushkuyu is now doing offshore exploration in the regions of Liman, Taisogan, R-9, and the areas close to the Uzen and Karamandybas fields. The country has been thoroughly investigated up to a depth of 3-3.5 kilometers on the surface. On the other hand, JSC Ushkuyu believes that there are considerable potential resources there, particularly in the subsalt levels.
The Company wants to grow its exploration portfolio by using JSC Ushkuyu power to directly negotiate with the Government for additional exploration licenses, drill exploratory wells aimed at subsalt structures, and continue seismic investigations at existing exploration blocks. In March 2011, the Company purchased four exploration blocks in Temir, Teresken, Uzen-Karamandybas, and Karaton-Sarkamys. In September 2018, the Company acquired 100 percent of LLP “SapaBarlauService” (currently JSC Ushkuyu Exploration assets) and 100 percent of LLP NBK. It also acquired 50 percent of “Urals Group Limited,” which owns the license for the Fedorovskiy block, in March 2017.
